Charlotte Stone Crabs vs Lakeland Flying Tigers

Andy Sonnanstine starting for Charlotte Stone Crabs.Port Charlotte, Florida: The Charlotte Stone Crabs picked up their 22nd come from behind victory in walk-off fashion against the Lakeland Flying Tigers. While the rehab appearance by Tampa Bay’s Andy Sonnanstine was the highlight of the night, it was the close contest between the regular starters that had people talking at the end of the night.

Lakeland jumped out to an early lead in the first inning. Gustavo Nunez led off the game with a line drive single to center. Nunez then stole second and later scored on an RBI single by Bryan Holaday to give the Flying Tigers a 1-0 lead.

The Stone Crabs answered back in the bottom of the first. Tim Beckham drew a walk to put a runner on the bases. Then on a hit and run play, Stephen Vogt singled to right, allowing Beckham to score from first and tie the game 1-1.

Lakeland took the lead back in the second. Patrick McKenna and Matthew Mansilla picked up back to back singles to get things started. Gustavo Nunez drove home the run with a single to right that scored McKenna and gave them a 2-1 lead.

The Stone Crabs clawed back to tie the game in the fourth. Kyeong Kang doubled to center to lead off the inning. Kang then advanced to third on a single by Matt Hall. Reid Fronk drove home the run with a bunt single to score Kang and tie the game 2-2.

Lakeland took the lead yet again in the seventh inning. This time it was a solo home run by Jordan Lennerton that gave them a one run advantage, leading 3-2.

But the Stone Crabs wasted no time in tying the game, scoring a run in the bottom of the seventh. Vogt singled to left to lead off the inning. Vogt later scored on a force out by Michael Sheridan to tie the game 3-3.

The Stone Crabs earned the win in the bottom of the ninth inning. Beckham doubled to left followed by an intentional walk to Vogt. Greg Sexton then laid down a sac bunt to move both runners into scoring position. Sheridan drove home the winning run with an RBI single to right, scoring Beckham and earning the 4-3 win.

Sonnanstine pitched 1 1/3 innings in his rehab start, giving up one run on two hits. He recorded four outs during his outing, all of them via strikeout. He has completed his assignment and will return the Rays bullpen.

Chris Andujar earned the win for the Stone Crabs, improving to 9-4 on the season.
