The Wandering Disciple

 A firefighter from the Englewood Fire Department demonstrates a high angle rescue during their open house event in 2018.  Firefighters possess a vast skill set that help them protect the citizens from their district.  At the sound of the alarm, firefighters can do anything from provide medical care, stop a gas leak, rescue a victim from the water, put out a house fire and so much more.  To stay proficient in these skills, they train regularly at their training center seen here during this public performance.  (Photo: October 6, 2018) 

Saving lives and protecting proprty is the mission of fire departments across the country including the Englewood Fire Department pictured here. The EFD is a fire department in Southwest Florida that protects 83 square miles spanning across Sarasota and Charlotte counties. Desire to serve, courage to act. That is the motto of your hometown fire department. The Englewood Area Fire Control Districts puts that motto to work everyday as they protect the citizens of Englewood. Today those services were put on display as part of the open house the department hosted in conjunction with fire prevention week. The memory of the 343 FDNY firefighters lost during the September 11th attacks on the World Trade Center which never be forgotten in the fire service. Departments around the country pay tribute to these brave souls that lost their lives trying to rescue strangers from that horrific tragedy. Englewood Fire Department pays tribute to these heroes on the side of Engine 71, reminding fire fighters and residents to never forget that fateful day. (Photo: September 11, 2018)
