This iconic attraction has been sharing Walt Disney’s love of trains with millions of parkgoers yearly, offering a nostalgic and scenic journey around the perimeter of the park. Magic Kingdom Day Trip

Image
Lake Buena Vista, Florida:  We hit the road early this morning for a day trip to Walt Disney World.  Today's adventure took us to the Magic Kingdom.  Having resumed our annual passes following an almost five year break from the parks, we were excited to see what's new at the Magic Kingdom since our last visit in 2019. One advantage to living so close to Walt Disney World is being able to take day trips to the park.  One downside is having to deal with I-4 traffic to get to the park.  We were originally going to go up yesterday, but when we punched in the trip on Google, our usual 2:20 trip was skirting close to 4 hours.  So we chose to go today instead and what a great choice!  The early start on the road left us smooth sailing to the park and Mother Nature prepared a beautiful, mild and sunny Sunday.   We arrived to Walt Disney World right as the Disney Princess Marathon was completing.  Despite the traffic modifications as a result of...

Walt Disney has always loved trains. In fact, his first job was selling newspapers on the Missouri Pacific line. As he entered into the advertising world, the passion resulted in him designing his own backyard railroad named the Carolwood Pacific. When Walt began developing his park, he made sure to incorporated a railroad into the park.  This is the Walt Disney World Railroad at the Magic Kingdom. The narrow-gauge railroad runs a mile and a half around the perimeter of the park with stops in Main Street USA, Frontierland and Fantasyland. The fleet features four steam locomotives and twenty passenger cars. Each locomotive is named after a pioneer of the Walt Disney World resort. Shown here is the Roy O. Disney pulling into the Main Street USA station.  Taken: October 2, 2011 at Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World (Lake Buena Vista, FL)

Rising above the center of the Magic Kingdom is Cinderella Castle. Disney Imagineers designed the park much like a wheel with the castle standing as the navigational beacon in the center of the wheel. But more than just a guide through the park, the castle is also home to a popular restaurant, a stage show, a luxurious suite and the the nightly fireworks show.  Each of Disney's theme parks all have their signature icon. Cinderella Castle is the symbol of the Magic Kingdom, Epcot has Spaceship Earth Hollywood Studios is the Earful Tower and Tree of Life symbolizes Animal Kingdom. They all serve as giant ambassadors to the park, giving guests a visual memory to identify the park with.  Taken: January 5, 2008 at Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World (Lake Buena Vista, FL)

Hold on to you hats and glasses cause this here is the wildest ride in the wilderness.  For over forty years, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at Walt Disney World has been taking its riders on a wild ride through the mysterious mountains of a Southwestern mining town.  The town was abandoned following a flash flood and till this very day these trails run wild through the mountains without an engineer or a crew.  (Photo: March 4, 2018)

Photo of the Day: Fountain Fit for a Princess

Tucked away in the shadows of Cinderella's Castle is a fountain dedicated to one of Disney's most popular princesses.  Sitting on a stump in the forest talking to her forest friends, the fountain of Cinderella pays tribute to her love of nature.  The fountain even has a hidden secret.  If you take a drink from the nearby water fountain and look at the statue, the crown in the background appears to sit right on her head.  (Photo: February 11, 2013)

With all the hustle and bustle of the Magic Kingdom, there are still places where you can stop and take a break and make all the craziness disappear for a few moments.  One of them is along the stream that separates Main Street USA and the central hub.  This tranquil setting is a great place to relax from a busy day and let the crowds pass you by.  (Photo: January 5, 2008)

As you cross over the bridge from the hub at the Magic Kingdom and enter into Tomorrowland, the world begins to take on a new appearance.  Designed to resemble what Disney envisioned the future to look like, Tomorrowland is one part futuristic and second part fun.  Tomorrowland is home to one of the big three mountains of the Magic Kingdom, Space Mountain.  It is also home to the oldest attraction at Disney, the Carousel of Progress which was designed for the 1945 World's Fair.  (Photo: November 18, 2007)
