Sarasota, Florida: Just outside of downtown Sarasota lies this small county park along the Philippi Creek. The urban oasis provides a refuge for people and wildlife looking to take a break from city life. The 22 acre park is operated by Sarasota County and offers many activities. The park features a playground, picnic pavilion, basketball courts, boat launch and nature trails just to name a few. The park is also a popular spot for bird watching. The mesic hammock habitat combined with the waters of the creek provide a habitat that supports many species of birds. During the spring months, the park is home to many migratory birds such as wrens, warblers, thrushes and more. They join the year round residents like herons, ibis, ducks and more who find the mix of wood and water a perfect home.
