Spring has officially sprung across the entirety of the Walt Disney World resort, and there truly isn't a better or more picturesque location to witness the vibrant colors and fresh blooms than within the expansive grounds of Epcot. Every year, as the temperatures rise and the world wakes up from winter, the park hosts its spectacular annual event: the Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival. During this cherished spring tradition, the park dramatically springs to life, transforming into a kaleidoscope of natural beauty with countless colorful displays, stunning topiaries crafted into beloved Disney characters, and exquisitely themed garden exhibits that celebrate the artistry of horticulture and the magic of Disney storytelling. The festival isn't just a feast for the eyes; it also offers a variety of outdoor kitchens serving fresh, spring-inspired cuisine and beverages, educational demonstrations, and live music, making it a truly immersive, season-long celebration of ...

Just because the sun has set doesn’t mean the fun and excitement needs to end; in fact, for many, the true magic begins when the daylight fades. As the skies go dark, the bright, vibrant lights come on, transforming the landscape and creating a spectacular atmosphere. Epcot, in particular, takes on a whole new, dazzling look after dusk. The iconic geodesic sphere of Spaceship Earth is bathed in a constantly shifting spectrum of colors, turning it into a dynamic beacon visible from across the park. The World Showcase lagoons reflect the brilliance of the illuminated pavilions, doubling the visual spectacle. Guests can wander through the recreated countries, which feel even more enchanting and intimate under the glow of carefully placed spotlights, string lights, and projections. The atmosphere shifts from the bustle of a daytime park to a sophisticated, lively evening destination, offering a unique opportunity to explore the park's wonders in a stunning new light.   When Walt Disney originally conceived of Epcot, his vision was an Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow—a dynamic, living showcase where corporate sponsors would feature the cutting edge of current technology alongside optimistic projections of future innovations. This foundational concept was directly reflected in the park's initial structure, featuring a mix of World Showcase and Future World pavilions dedicated to specific themes like communication, energy, and transportation. While the park has inevitably undergone numerous changes and rebranding efforts throughout the years, the spirit of showcasing both contemporary achievements and tomorrow's possibilities still remains at its core. However, with the constant march of progress and the need to refresh attractions, some beloved pavilions have been lost to the flow of time and re-development. One notable example of these lost treasures is the Wonders of Life Pavilion. Opening its doors in the Future World section o...

Some of my earliest childhood memories surrounded the holidays and one holiday tradition is the Easter egg hunt. I would get all excited to get out there and find as may eggs I could and look forward to the prizes they contained.  With Easter on the way, the Walt Disney World resort is bringing that excitement back for kids and adults. From now until Easter you can participate in the Egg-Stravaganza Scavenger Hunt at Epcot. Grab your card and hit the trails of World Showcase and try to find each of the colorful eggs. Look high and low, near and far to find them all and when you do, be sure to collect your prize.  Taken: March 9, 2024 at Epcot at Walt Disney World (Lake Buena Vista, FL)

As we wake up an hour later this morning thanks to Daylight Savings Time, we spring forward to the colorful blooms of spring flowers. This bright and colorful garden is courtesy of the International Flower and Garden Festival currently going on at Epcot at the Walt Disney World resort in Central Florida. Be sure to check out the colorful display, delicious food and great music hosted during the festival.  One reminder as we enter Daylight Savings Time, please take a moment to change the batteries in your smoke detector. Three in five home fire deaths are attributed to no working smoke detectors in the home. Be sure each time you change your clocks, you change your batteries.  Taken: March 9, 2024 at Epcot at Walt Disney World (Lake Buena Vista, FL)

Photo of the Day: Feeding the World

Image
Inside this greenhouse at Epcot, Disney has found a way to feed the world. Well not really the entire world, but Walt Disney World. The growing practice seen here use hydroponics, a water based process that helps these herbs produce a a large yield in smaller spaces since they are growing vertically instead of horizontally in the ground. This practice can help bring farming into denser populations and provide a source of fresh food without the need for sprawling farms.  Living with the Land at Epcot's The Land pavilion takes visitor's on a boat ride through Disney's revolutionary greenhouse. They show sustainable farming practices that will help us live with the land and not on it.  Taken: January 8, 2008 at Epcot at Walt Disney World (Lake Buena Vista, FL)

The icon of Epcot, Spaceship Earth shines brightly in the Central Florida night sky. Since the park opened in 1982, the geodesic sphere of Spaceship Earth has stood tall to welcome guests to a park where the future is here. At night the light cast from the triangles that comprise the sphere appear to change color before your eyes depending on the angle in which you are looking at it. (Photo: November 10, 2018)

Photo of the Day: A Geometrical Marvel

Image
When people look at Spaceship Earth at Epcot, some people see a giant ball, a dome or others may even call it a golf ball. But did you know that it isn't either one of them, its actually a a bunch of isosceles triangles. 11,520 of them to be exact. They are assembled to make a 180 foot tall geodesic sphere that that houses a moving ride. The design of Spaceship Earth was inspired by the US Pavilion at the 1967 Worlds Fair in Montreal but unlike the pavilion, Spaceship Earth is a complete sphere. (Photo: January 29, 2011)

Photo of the Day: Not So Hidden Mickey

Image
Look around Walt Disney World and you will see the iconic mouse ear everywhere.  On signs, on manhole covers even in food.  But what you may not notice as quickly are the hidden Mickeys located where you least expect it. Some are obvious like this pumpkin here in Living With the Land but others can be quite difficult to find.  So next time you're at Walt Disney World and looking for something to take your mind off the crowds and the heat, try looking for hidden Mickeys, you'll be surprised with where they are.  (Photo: January 5, 2008)

Photo of the Day: Guarded by the Buddha

Image
The Buddhist statue stands guard at the China Pavilion in the World Showcase at Epcot.  The Buddha status is a widely renowned symbol of Chinese Buddhism, a large religion that dates back to Han Dynasty in 206 BC. The act of worshiping a golden man statue dates back as far at the 8th century when Emperor Wu of Han was depicted worshiping a statue.  This symbol has stayed to Buddhism to this day and is one of the most recognizable symbols with the religion. Photo of the Day: Traveling in Style

Image
Once a futuristic form of travel, the Walt Disney World monorail system connects over 150,000 daily riders to the Magic Kingdom and Epcot.  Opened in 1971, the monorail system was designed to help transport park guests from the parking lot to the theme park.  The system has since grown to the third busiest monorail system in the world.  There are three routes; the Magic Kingdom Express, the resort route and the Epcot route.  In all, the system has almost 15 miles worth of track.  (Photo: August 18, 20016)

Photo of the Day: Flower, Pretty Flower

Flower, pretty flower. That's not a flower, that's a skunk.  Well actually it is a flower and Epcot is blooming with beautiful flower displays throughout the park for the 2018 Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival.  Scenes of popular Disney movies come to live in topiary displays while the gardens pop with bright colorful flowers.  There is still time left to see this year's displays as the festival runs until May 28th.  (Photo: April 7, 2018)
