Kid City was a hugely popular children's attraction situated right in the heart of downtown Tampa. This miniature city, built to a child's scale, offered an immersive and educational experience that was unlike anything else in the area. It wasn't just a playground; it was a fully interactive world designed to mimic the essential functions of a real-life community.  Within the vibrant walls of Kid City, children could step into the roles of various community members. They could don uniforms and work as firefighters, police officers, or doctors in a pint-sized hospital. The attraction featured a miniature bank where kids could learn about saving and spending, a grocery store for role-playing shoppers and cashiers, and even a functioning post office where they could send and receive letters.   As you stroll the streets of this tiny town, you instantly realize something is different. Welcome to Kid City, the pint sized town for the youngest members of the city. This city features miniature homes, stores and even government building, providing a one of a kind play opportunity allowing kids to run the city. Kids City was a popular children's attraction located near Lowry Park.  Opened in 1986 it was the almost two acre city was the largest permanent safety village in the world. It even features miniature replicas of Tampa landmarks like City Hall and the County Courthouse. Tampa, Florida: Tucked away in the heart of downtown Tampa is a bustling city. No its not Y’bor City, but rather its Kid City, a miniature city replica for the kids to recreate city life. From City Hall to McDonald’s, it is all here for exploration. Originally opened in the 1960’s as a place to teach safe bike riding, the facility has grown to a working city. Today there are several interactive exhibits in which the children can pretend to run the city. Kid City has a fire station, police station, post office, art museum, McDonald’s, Publix grocery store, doctor’s office, city hall, bank and more. Each of these building are equipped with dress up outfits and equipment to make the experience more realistic. In 2008, the City of Tampa decided to close the aging facility. Construction of a new children’s museum in downtown Tampa had begun and there are plans to incorporate and enhance some of the exhibits found at the original Kid City.
