Charlotte Stone Crabs vs Dunedin Blue Jays

Stephen Vogt goes deep in Sunday's game between the Charlotte Stone Crabs and Dunedin Blue Jays at Charlotte Sports Park.Port Charlotte, Florida: The Charlotte Stone Crabs suffered a tough loss to the Dunedin Blue Jays 10-4 on Sunday evening at Charlotte Sports Park. Stone Crabs starter Frank De Los Santos was hit hard in the loss, allowing 8 runs on 11 hits in the game.

The Stone Crabs jumped out to an early lead in the first inning. Reid Fronk led off the inning with a triple to right field. Tim Beckham drove home Fronk with a ground ball to second, giving the Stone Crabs a 1-0 lead.

Dunedin battled back to take the lead in the top of the second inning. Mark Sobolewski led off the inning with a solo home run to left that tied the game. Later in the inning, Justin McClanahan drove home a run with an RBI single to center that scored Yan Gomes and gave the Blue Jays a 2-1 lead.

Dunedin added to their lead with another two run inning in the fourth inning. Ryan Goins scored the first run of the inning on a throwing error by Tim Beckham. Then Brian Van Kirk drove home Anthony Gose for the second run of the inning, increasing the lead to 4-1.

The Blue Jay offense continued to roll into the fifth inning, striking for another four runs. Welinton Ramirez drove home the first run with a sac fly to score Sobolewski. Then McClanahan cleared the bases with a three run homer to give the Blue Jays an 8-1 lead.

The Stone Crabs answered with a three run homer of their own in the bottom of the sixth inning. Tim Beckham and Greg Sexton reached on single to put runners on the bases. Then Stephen Vogt drove them home with a 2-out three run homer to cut the lead in half 8-4.

But Dunedin wasn’t done scoring, putting the final nails in the coffin in the form of two solo home runs. Gose went deep to lead off the inning followed by Michael McDade later in the inning. The result was the Stone Crabs falling to the Blue Jays 10-4.

Frank De Los Santos suffered the loss for the Stone Crabs, falling to 8-7 on the year. Henderson Alvarez earned the win and Evan Crawford the save for the Blue Jays.
