When this pig flies, the tropics are in turmoil and someone is under the gun for a dangerous tropical cyclone. Miss Piggy is a P-3 Orion flown by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Aircraft Operations division based at MacDill Air Force Base. The aircraft more commonly known as a Hurricane Hunter flies into the heart of tropical systems to gather data to help determine the path and intensity of storms, helping the staff at the National Hurricane Center make informed forecasts that help save lives and protect property.

RARE Event Comes to Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport

The Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) will be bringing their Round-Engine Aircraft Ride Event (RARE) to the Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport on February 5 through 8. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to fly aboard not one but two historic aircraft, A Ford-Tri-Motor and a B-17 Flying Fortress. They will be offering rides on both aircraft during their visit as well as ground tours of the B-17. The tour is sponsored by the EAA Chapter 188. Tickets and more info about the event can be found on their website . Check back later for photos from the event.

Dr. Joseph Masessa performs in his OV-1 Mohawk during the 2013 Florida International Air Show. The OV-1 Mohawk was developed by Grumman and saw action during the Vietnam War and Operation Desert Storm. Originally designed to be used by the US Army as a light attack aircraft, the Mohawk was later developed into a spy plane. Dr. Masessa's flies his Mohawk in the only aerobatic routine in the world.
