Photo of the Day: Seek and Destroy

Image
The unmanned MQ-9 Reaper operated by the US Air Force is the ultimate seek and destroy platform. From the safety of a military compound, operators can deliver over 3,000 pounds of payload with pinpoint accuracy on a target way down range. It has been an important tactical weapon in the War on Terror with many key combatants falling victim to the Reaper. In addition to the US Air Force, the MQ-9 is in service with the US Department of Homeland Security, NASA and a variant called the Mariner is in use with the US Navy. The MQ-9 pictured here is operated by the 432d Wing at Creech Air Force Base and was on display during the 2018 Wings Over Homestead air show at Homestead Air Reserve Base. (Photo: November 4, 2018)

Photo of the Day: Veteran's Day

As much of the nation enjoys a day off today, lets take a moment to honor the veterans in which this day of remembrance has been established for. Originally declared Armistice Day in 1919 by President Woodrow Wilson, the holiday was established to honor the signing of the Armistice that ended World War I on November 11, 1918. In 1926, President Calvin Coolidge declared Armistice Day a nation holiday to be honored yearly on November 11. Then in 1954, President Dwight D Eisenhower honored a movement to change the name of holiday to Veterans Day to honor all Veterans who served the nation. (Photo: November 3, 2012)
