Day Three: Bahama Cruise

Nassau, Bahamas: The day at Nassau got off to a later start since the ship wasn’t due in port until noon. So we decided to sleep in a bit. Once we woke up, we headed to Windjammer for breakfast. Then I went to the Explorations Desk to book excursions for Nassau. Our intentions were to do another walking tour, but after the toll the walking tour took on us in Key West, we thought it would be best to do a driving tour here in Nassau. We booked the Nassau and Paradise Island tour and also tickets to the Pirates of Nassau museum.

Once Majesty arrived in Nassau, disembarkation was chaos. I don’t know if it was the popularity of the port or the fact that it was noon and more people were awake, but the line for disembarkation started on Deck Two and extended to at least Deck Four where I could no longer see it from my location. Disembarkation was delayed and mass of people waiting were getting agitated making for an uncomfortable waiting time. Then once off the ship, the tours were running behind schedule making for even longer wait times to get started.

Finally an hour after we were to start, our tour finally got started. We boarded an air-conditioned taxi van and began our tour of Nassau. The tour winded the city streets and made the first stop at Fort Charlotte. From here you could overlook the port and city then took a narrated tour through the fort and its dungeons. We then hopped back on the van and continued the drive through the city with the next stop being Fort Fincastle. From here the tour continued on foot through the fort, past the water tower and down the Queen’s Staircase where the van was waiting. Once back on the van we drove back through the city and over the Paradise Island bridge to Atlantis Hotel and Casino. We got 30 minutes exploration time at Atlantis, allowing us to see some of the aquariums and marvel at the common areas of the hotel. After the thirty minutes were over, the driver took us back to Bay Street in Nassau, the shopping district of the island where the tour concluded.

From Bay Street, we took the couple blocks walk to the Pirates of Nassau museum. Much of the history of the island was bases on Pirates so the museum took a look into the lives of the Pirates. Using re-creations and a few live actors, the museum told the story about Pirate life in the Caribbean.

After the museum we continued on foot to the world famous Straw Market. Here my wife shopped for a while before we continued the walk back to the port and re-boarded the Majesty.

Back onboard the ship, we headed back to the pool and hung out for a while before changing and heading to dinner. After dinner our son spent a little more time at Adventure Ocean for the pajama party and movie night where they watched Peter Pan. While he was there, my wife and I just kick backed and relaxed while exploring the ship and browsing the shops onboard. We then picked him up from the kids program and retired for the night.
