Magic Kingdom: Liberty Square

The Haunted Mansion at Magic KingdomLake Buena Vista, Florida: The smallest land in the Magic Kingdom, Liberty Square plays homage to the birth of America. Colonial American spirit is alive and well amongst here in the village. Liberty Square is home to all of the nation’s presidents as well as a mansion with 999 ghosts.

This small land is one of the original lands of the Magic Kingdom and is the only one in the park not to have received a major renovation since opening day in 1971. The theme here is colonial America, the buildings resemble old clapboard houses found in the colonies in the 1700’s. There is even a replica of the Liberty Bell and Liberty Tree. Liberty Square is home to three attractions, the Haunted Mansion, Hall of Presidents and Liberty Square Riverboat.

The main attraction here is the Haunted Mansion. Enter the creepy mansion and embark on an eight minute journey through the haunted halls and come face to face with 999 happy haunts. As you ride in you doom buggy, you will pass through many scenes with playful ghosts. The most famous scene is the ballroom where the ghost dance the night away.

The Hall of Presidents is a historical look back at the history of our presidents. Using Disney’s famed audio animatronics, the past presidents are brought back to life. The twenty minute show includes a look back at the history of the United States and a roll call of all 43 presidents. The show was revised following each president to include a speech from the most current president. The current version unveiled in 2009 is narrated by Morgan Freeman and includes a speech by Barack Obama.

The Liberty Square Riverboat is a working steam boat that travels the Rivers of America. Board the three story Liberty Belle and embark on a seventeen minute journey around the river. Narrated by Mark Twain, you will have a great view of the Wild West. Originally the ride had two boats, Admiral Joe Fowler and Richard F Irvine. But in 1980, Fowler was retired and then in 1996 Irvine was renovated and renamed the Liberty Belle.

Liberty Square is home to three restaurants ranging from table service to quick snacks. They restaurant found here are:

  • Columbia Harbour House: counter service restaurant serving fish, chicken, clam chowder and more.
  • Liberty Tree Tavern: table service restaurant serving American comfort foods such as pot roast, turkey, mac and cheese and more. Lunch is a’ la carte and dinner is buffet served by Disney characters.
  • Sleepy Hollow: ice cream, funnel cakes, caramel corn and many more sweet snacks.
