Day Two: WDW Trip January 2008

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at the Magic KingdomLake Buena Vista, Florida: With our passes back in service, we woke up early to hit the Magic Kingdom. We had breakfast at the Riverside Mill here at the hotel and then boarded the bus for the Magic Kingdom.

When the rope dropped, we headed down Main Street USA enroute to Fantasyland. Once there we visited all of the attractions there. We rode Dumbo, Snow White’s Scary Adventures, The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, Mickey’s PhilharMagic, Peter Pan’s Flight and It’s a Small World all be before the crowds became unbearable.

From there we headed to Liberty Square to ride the Haunted Mansion. Afterwards it was a trip to Frontierland so my wife could ride her favorite ride, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. Then we hopped on the ferry to Tom Sawyer Island where the little guy explored the caves and bridges on the island. I love the suspension bridges, the bring out the mischievous kid in me. On the barrel bridge, I jumped down on the bridge so hard, it flung the people on the other end up in the air and got them soaked…what a Kodak moment.

After we got back from the island, we had lunch at Pecos Bill Café. They have great hamburgers and a toppings bar that has anything you want to top the burger. The outdoor tables overlook Splash Mountain so you can eat your lunch while watching people take the plunge.

After lunch, we stopped by the Country Bear Jamboree on the way to Adventureland to ride Pirates of the Caribbean and the Magical Carpets of Aladdin. Then we doubled back to Frontierland to board the Walt Disney World Railroad to take us to our next destination, Mickey’s Toontown Fair.

Once we arrived at Mickey’s Toontown Fair, we rode Barnstormer a few times before heading to Tomorrowland where we drove the Tomorrowland Speedway and took a trip on the Tomorrowland Transit Authority. Afterwards we headed towards the exit of Magic Kingdom.

Since it wasn’t too late and the little guy still had some energy left in him, we decided to hop on the Monorail and head over Epcot. We boarded the monorail and sat in the driver’s cab for the trip. Our son got a special pass for helping to drive the monorail.

Our first stop in Epcot was Spaceship Earth. After taking the 20 minute journey through the history of communications, we headed behind the giant attraction and browsed through the Innoventions pavilions. Each time we visit Innoventions, I am amazed at how advanced our generation has gotten. Then we headed over to the Land pavilion for a journey through our land. Our final stop on our short trip through Epcot was the Imagination for a ride with the crazy purple guy named Figment.

It was starting to get late and the little guy was getting tired so we skipped World Showcase and headed back to the hotel. Once back at Port Orleans, we had dinner at the restaurant in the hotel and then headed back to the room for the night.
