Woody Woodpecker’s KidZone

Orlando, Florida: Bikes fly, a purple dinosaur sings and dances, animals act, and a coaster goes crazy. No your not dreaming, you are in the middle of Woody Woodpecker’s KidZone at Universal Studios Florida. Here the littlest members of your group can get wild and crazy with some of the famous Universal cartoon characters.

This area of the park was initially part of the World Expo until 1999 when it was separated and renamed Woody Woodpecker’s KidZone. Today it is home to shows and attractions geared towards the younger ones.

The oldest attraction here is one of the parks signature attractions, the ET Adventure. Opened in 1990, you embark on an adventure to help ET save the green planet. Hop aboard a bicycle and try to escape capture from the police. Before you know it ET has your bike airborne to avoid capture and begin your journey to the planet. Once you arrive, the healing touch of ET helps save the day and the planet.

If the flight to the green planet wasn’t wild enough, the next attraction might satisfy the little daredevils. The Woody Woodpecker’s Nuthouse Coaster is a family rollercoaster that opened in 1999. Here riders 36 inches or taller can enjoy a wild ride with Woody through his nut factory reaching speeds of 25 miles per hour.

There are also two separate themed play areas for the kids to enjoy. The first one Fievel’s Playland opened in 1992 and includes climbing ropes and a water slide to finish. Following the success of the first play area, they added Curious George Goes to Town in 1998. Here kids can enjoy the splash fountains and foam ball cannons while trying to avoid the 500 gallon water bucket that spills every few moments.

The KidZone also features two shows as well. The first of which is geared to young children. A Day in the Park with Barney is a 30 minute sing along show featuring Barney, Baby Bop and BJ. The second show is one the whole family will enjoy. Animal Actors on Location is a 20 minute show that gives an inside look at how animals have helped Hollywood movies. See some famous animals and what it takes to make them perform on screen.

The only place to eat here is the KidZone Pizza Company. In addition to the namesake pizza, you will also find chicken fingers, salads, fruit and more.

If your looking to pick up a souvenir, the following shops are located in KidZone:

  • The Barney Store: Barney themed toys and clothing.
  • ET Toy’s Closet: ET themed toys and clothing.
  • Universal Cartoon Store: clothing, toys and more featuring all of the famous Universal cartoon characters.
