North Port Bobcats vs Ida Baker Bulldogs
North Port, Florida: The North Port Bobcats dazzled the homecoming crowd Friday night by defeating the visiting Ida Baker Bulldogs by the score of 34-14. After being shut-out last week, the Bobcats rebounded and scored twenty unanswered points and three shut-out quarters before allowing the Bulldogs to reach the end zone in the fourth quarter. The explosive ground game of the Bobcats led the way, finishing the game with 289 yard on the ground. Both Brandon DeShields and Devonte Bailey walked away with 100 yard nights.
The Bobcats first drive began on defense when DeShields intercepted a pass on the opening drive of the game. The Bobcat offense then drove the ball 27 yard on 5 plays resulting in a 10 yard touchdown run by DeShields to take the lead 7-0.
Then in the second quarter, the Bobcats struck again. After a Bulldog punt, the Bobcats began another scoring drive from their own 26 yard line. Eighteen plays later it was Tyler Griffith carrying the ball across the goal line to take a 14-0 lead.
The Bobcats began the third quarter with great field position and quickly drove the field for six more points. North Port quarterback Paul Balcomb hit Dave Dorgelus along the sidelines who took it in for a 33 yard touchdown. The point after failed and the Bobcats held a commanding 20-0 advantage.
Both teams exchanged a pair of scores in the fourth quarter. The Bulldogs reached the scoreboard with 5:53 left in the game. The drive started when Balcomb threw an interception. A few plays later, Reece Attwood hit Cecil Fitch in the end zone for a 34 yard touchdown pass to put the Bulldogs on the board 20-7.
The Bobcats answered back with a scoring drive of their own. They recovered the onside kick then drove the ball down the field for seven more points. Balcomb made up for the earlier interception by scoring on the QB keeper to increase the lead to 27-7.
But Ida Baker still had a little fight left in them. Attwood aired it out on the first play of the drive. Frankie Wilson was on the receiving end of a 78 yard touchdown pass that brought the Bulldog back within two touchdowns of the lead at 27-14.
The Bobcats struck one more time before the game was over. Just like the last scoring drive, the Bobcats recovered the onside kick to start the drive with great field position. Bailey broke off a 54 yard touchdown run with 25 seconds left in the game to give the Bobcats the win 34-14.
With the win, the Bobcat improved 2-3 overall on the 2010 season.
