Photo of the Day: Mad Rush for Departure

A backlog of departures line up on Taxiway Foxtrot at Southwest Florida International Airport trying to depart before a regional ground stop is initiated. On Monday Jacksonville Center, responsible for most of the airspace in the Southeast US, closed due to COVID-19 cleaning. During this regional ground stop, they opened a 55 minute window for departures and RSW was slammed with flights trying to depart before the ground stop resumed. Air Traffic Controllers did an amazing job of clearing the backlog within the window of opportunity. (Photo: January 4, 2021)
