Photo of the Day: Just Hanging Around
A sloth hangs from a tree branch in the aviary at ZooTampa. Nature's slowest mammal, the sloth is a arboreal animal meaning they spend most of their time in the trees. But despite their appearance of always napping, they only sleep about ten hours a day in the wild. Over 90% of their life is spent hanging upside down in trees and they can safely do this because their organs are attached to their rib cage allowing them to hang upside down without weighing down their lungs and giving them trouble breathing.
