Photo of the Day: Fruit of the Sea

Found along coastal Florida and the Caribbean, the sea grape is a one of the tropical shrubs that make up the coastal landscape. This flowering plant produces grape-like fruit which can be eaten or used to make jams.  In addition to producing fruit, the sea grape is beneficial to the coastal environment because combined with mangroves, it helps prevent coastal erosion.  (Photo: January 25, 2009)
