Key Agency at Labadie Construction
Englewood, Florida: Youth baseball fans in Englewood were treated with a great baseball game on Cinco De Mayo eve. A battle of of the top two teams in the league took place on a crisp Thursday night at Englewood Sports Complex. But a crazy play with one out remaining in the game would make the difference as Labadie Construction edged Key Agency 7-6.
Key Agency jumped out to an early lead by pushing across a pair of runs in the first inning. A sac fly by Cody Mayes scored the first run of the inning. The second run of the inning came as Bryce Noll scored on an error to make it 2-0.
Labadie bounced back in the bottom of the first to grab the lead. They loaded the bases on back to back singles by Jacob Newcomb and Trey Rutan followed by a walk issued to Charlie Dillmore. A fielding error allowed Newcomb to score the first run of the inning. Then Labadie took the lead on a two run single by Lucas Newcomb to give them a 3-2 lead.
Labadie Construction added two more runs in three more runs in the third. Two runs came on a line drive by Dillmore. Rutan later scored on a passed ball to make it 6-3.
Key Agency mounted a comeback in the top of the sixth inning. A single by Troy Reames followed by a double by Bryce Noll set the table for Mayes who belted his third homer of the season to tie the game 6-6.
The excitement carried on to an ending that only a battle of the bests could provide. After hitting the tying home run, Mayes retook the mound to try and finish of the game and hold their foe to a tie. He quickly retired the first batter on three straight pitches. Then L Newcomb ripped a tripple down the line to put the winning run at third. Mayes then hit a batter and gave up a bunt single to load the bases. Mayes then struck out the next hitter on three straight pitches to record the second out of the inning. The final hitter hit a slow roller back to the mound in what appeared to be out number three, but the the throw was missed by the first baseman, allowing Newcomb to score and hand Key Agency the 7-6 loss.
