Photo of the Day: B-17 Flying Fortress “City of Savannah”

After a long process of trying to secure a B-17 Flying Fortress for their collection, the National Museum of the Mighty Eighth Air Force was able to obtain one from the Smithsonian Institute. Today, the aircraft is being restored to its full glory as the “City of Savannah”, the 5,000 B-17 processed at Hunter Field in Savannah. The restoration work can be seen close-up as the aircraft sits on display at the museum. (Photo: March 15, 2014)
