Sarasota Jungle Gardens

Sarasota, Florida: Tucked away in a residential neighborhood in northern Sarasota is a hidden gem of the Suncoast. Sarasota Jungle Gardens is a botanical garden where you can enjoy the tropical fauna and learn about exotic animals at the same time.

Opened in 1936, Sarasota Jungle Gardens is one of the oldest tourist attractions in Florida. David Breed Lindsay transformed a swampy grove into a botanical garden and by the 1940’s the gardens flourished. The gardens began to add animal attractions in the 1970’s with the addition of an exotic bird show. Today Jungle Gardens is home to birds, reptiles, mammals and the famous pink flamingos.

A paved trail takes you on a journey through the 10 acre park. The tour begins at the gift shop and winds its way through park, passing animal exhibits deep in the jungle. As you travel the path, there are markers along the way that correspond with the park map to help ensure you see all of the parks attractions. During the journey you will encounter over thirty animal exhibits.

Another popular attraction is the wildlife shows. Sarasota Jungle Gardens offers three animal shows; Reptile Encounter, Jungle Bird Show and Wildlife Wonder. These shows are offered throughout the day and allow you to see the animals interact with their trainers in an entertaining show.

Midway through the trail is the Flamingo Café. Located by a relaxing koi pond, the café features food, drinks and snacks in which you can eat inside in the a/c or under the canopy of the dense foliage outside.

A gift shop located at the park entrance provides gifts and souvenirs to help you remember your trip to the gardens.

For over 70 years, Sarasota Jungle Gardens continues to entertain visitors with its botanical gardens and wildlife conservation efforts. Its blend of natural beauty and wildlife will keep guests coming back for years to come.
