The John Ericsson National Memorial on the National Mall pays tribute to engineer John Ericsson. His work helped to revolutionize naval history and help maintain the Union’s naval supremacy. The memorial was dedicated in 1926 and features a seated Ericsson and three standing figures that represent adventure, labor and vision. (Photo: February 15, 2009)
