Happy New Year from Donten Photography

Welcome to 2013 and a new year means new adventures. This year will be a great year for the site with several changes to occur throughout the new year.

Before we move forward into 2013, lets take a look back at 2012. Last year was a busy year for the site. We welcomed our one millionth reader in March and closed the year with almost 1.3 million viewers. To date, there are over 14,000 photos on the site which is just a small reflection of my photo archive. We opened two new subpages to highlight two of the more popular topics on the site (aviation and baseball). These are just a few of the major accomplishments from the past year.

But as the site continues to evolve, a change is needed to help the site grow into the new year. After thoughtful consideration evoked by my wife, I have decided to drop the Around the World in Pictures and revert to a much simpler title “Donten Photography”. My original concept was for the site to be about travel however it has developed into much more. Plus much of my photography is from within the United States and Florida, it doesn’t really fit the title of being Around the World. Changing the site to simply “Donten Photography” allows me to be more flexible with the photography on the site.

Although the name will be changing, the site will still operate in the same fashion. There will be plenty of photos and they story behind the places we visit. However with the economy and our budget, there hasn’t been as much traveling as in years past.

Another major change you will notice is the incorporation of a new layout. With the new name comes a new image.  This new layout provides the best look for the new format.  This is going to be a trial at first to see how it functions, I am still old-fashion to some extent and the new format worries me.  But we will see.  If not, I have another basic theme in back-up.

While we are on the topic of image.  My wife has been working on a watermark logo that will debut later this year.

I am also looking to incorporate a more personal sense of writing. With the exception of the travel log, much of the articles about the place with visit are very factual in nature and doesn’t really tell you what we saw while we were there. This is going to change, while I will still feature a factual overview of the location, there is will be more personal reflection either in an independent article or within the same article.

Finally, I am looking at a way to allow you the reader to purchase prints of photos on the site. I am really happy with the photo hosting on pbase.com, but currently they do not allow the opportunity to purchase photos. So I am searching for alternatives to try and accomplish this. In the meantime, if you are interested in any of the photos, let me know and we can work something together through a third party like Shutterfly.

That's just a few of the new ideas I have for the new year. There are many more in the planning phase and will be implemented along the way. If there are any you can think of, comment below or send me an e-mail.

Thanks for visiting and have a great 2013.
