Photo of the Day: Being Neighborly
Knock, knock. A gopher tortoise stops by our front door in North Port. With much of the city underdeveloped, your neighbor tends to be wildlife rather than people.
Gopher Tortoises are a threatened tortoise found in the Southeastern US. Known for digging burrows, the gopher tortoise burrow can be home to over 300 other animals as well, making them a critical keystone of the ecosystem.
