Photo of the Day: Flower, Pretty Flower

Flower, Pretty Flower.  That’s not a flower that’s a cactus.  Well actually its both.  It is a Florida Prickly Pear Cactus in bloom along the Upland Trail at Weedon Island Preserve.  While we think of Florida as a wet tropical climate, it was once a desert environment much like the deserts of the southwestern United States.  There are still small reminder of this in the state and the cactus is one of them.  (Photo: March 16, 2019)
