Charlotte Stone Crabs vs Tampa Tarpons

Port Charlotte, Florida: With temperatures heating up in the Sunshine State to start July, the action on the field is getting just as hot as the boys of summer head into the Independence Day week with a Sunday afternoon game at Charlotte Sports Park. After splitting the first two games of the series the Charlotte Stone Crabs hosted the Tampa Tarpons in the rubber match of the three game set.

The Tarpons jumped out to an early lead by scoring in the second inning.  They loaded the bases following a walk to Brandon Wagner, a single by Dom Thompson-Williams and a walk to Steven Sensley.  A bases loaded passed ball allowed Wagner to score and give Tampa a 1-0 lead.
Tampa added to their lead in the fifth.  Angel Aguilar tripled to right and later scored on a RBI single by Kyle Holder to make it 2-0 Tarpons.

The Stone Crabs wasted no time to tie the game, pushing across a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth. Following a lead off single by David Olemedo-Barrera, Robbie Tenerowicz struck an RBI double to center to cut the lead in half.  Tenerowicz then scored on an RBI double by Jesus Sanchez to tie the game 2-2.

The momentum carried over into the sixth inning when the Stone Crabs pushes across three more runs.  Jake Fraley scored on an RBI double by Rene Pinto.  Pinto would later score on an RBI single by Lucius Fox.  Tristan Gray then drove home Fox with a double to right to give Charlotte a 5-2 lead.
The Stone Crabs collected an insurance run in the bottom of the seventh.  Josh Lowe bounced one over the right field wall for a ground rule double.  Lowe then scored on a triple by Jake Fraley to make it 6-2 Charlotte.

Tampa picked up a run in the top of the eighth to cut the deficit in half.  Thompson-Williams scored on a ground ball by Rashad Crawford.  But that was all they could push across as the Stone Crabs held on to win 6-3.

Reece Karalus picked up the win out of the bullpen for the Stone Crabs while Ivan Pelaez notched the save.  Justin Kamplain was the losing pitcher for Tampa.

With the win, the Stone Crabs picked up the series win and improved to 4-6 on the second half which puts them in fourth place in the FSL South Division.  The Tarpons fell to 5-5 on the half and are tied for fourth place in the FSL North Division.

The Stone Crabs will now host their rival to the south, the Fort Myers Miracle for a two game Independence Day series starting on Monday night at Charlotte Sports Park.  The Tarpons continue their road trip with a two game set against the Dunedin Blue Jay with first game on Monday night at Dunedin Stadium.
