Photo of the Day: Wild and Scenic River

Flowing slowly though rural Manatee and Sarasota County, the Myakka River is one of only a handful of wild and scenic rivers in the state of Florida. With little development along the banks of the river, the Myakka River is a glimpse of what old Florida was like before the development boom. The river flows 68 miles from the Hardee-Manatee line to the Gulf of Mexico with a large portion of the river flowing through the Myakka River State Park. (Photo: March 12, 2005)
