Photo of the Day: Wild and Scenic River

The quiet waters of the Myakka River flow through the Myakka River State Park in eastern Sarasota County. The river starts near the Hardee-Manatee county line and flows 68 miles southward, emptying into Charlotte Harbor. Twelve miles of the river passes through the state park and much of it remains undeveloped leading to it be designated as a Wild and Scenic River. (Photo: November 30, 2013)
