Photo of the Day: Law Enforcement Memorial

Today the nation observes Peace Officers Memorial Day, a day in which we honor those who have sworn to protect and serve us. President John F Kennedy declared May 15 as Peace Officers Memorial Day by presidential law in 1962. In a proclamation by President George W Bush he proclaimed " Peace Officers Memorial Day and Police Week pay tribute to the local, State, and Federal law enforcement officers who serve and protect us with courage and dedication. These observances also remind us of the ongoing need to be vigilant against all forms of crime, especially to acts of extreme violence and terrorism." Pictured here is the Law Enforcement Memorial at the American Police Hall of Fame and Museum in Titusville, Florida. Engraved on the marble walls of the memorial are the names of all the peace officers who have been killed in the line of duty throughout the United States. (Photo: January 24, 2010)
