North Port Bobcats vs Sarasota Sailors
The Bobcats won the toss and elected to defer to the second half. The game looked to be a defensive battle as both teams exchanged punts on their first drives to start the game. But that was as close as it would be as Sailor offense jumped out to a big lead by scoring 24 unanswered points in the first half.
The Sailors would march down the field to score on their second possession of the game. A 43 yard pass from Sage Hansard to Mack Dancer set up a 2 yard touchdown run by Marlon Mack to put the Sailors on the board 7-0.
After exchanging stalling drives, the Sailors got the ball back via an interception. They marched down the field to score their second touchdown as Hansard went to the air to Marquis Zimmerman for a 1 yard touchdown pass to put them ahead 14-0.
The Sailors went right back on the attack after recovering an onsides kick on the ensuing kick-off. They drove the ball to the 21 yard line where Jonathan Berman kicked a field goal to up the score to 17-0.
Sarasota punched in one more touchdown before the half as Tylon Williams carried the ball across the goaline from 4 yards out to send the Sailors to the locker room with a 24-0 lead at the half.
The Bobcats came out of the lockers rejuvenated and started the second half looking like a much different team. They took the opening drive of the half from the 23 to the endzone, scoring their first touchdown of the night. Denzel Daniel broke free for a 42 yard touchdown run to put 7 on the board for the Bobcats as they now trailed 24-7.
The Sailors offense went to the air for 7 more as Hansard connected with Mack Dancer on a 61 yard touchdown strike to up their lead to 31-7.
The Sailors got another touchdown in the fourth quarter via an 8 yard run by Eugene Ash to put them ahead 38-7.
The Bobcats scored one more time with 4:14 left in the fourth quarter as Brendan DeShields carried the ball in from 7 yards out. The point after missed and the Bobcats ended the night with a 38-13 loss to the Sailors.
The Bobcat offense struck for 227 total yards, 140 on the ground and 87 in the air. However this did not match up to the 232 passing yards and 103 rushing yards posted by the Sailors offense.
The loss drops the Bobcats to 1-2 overall on the season and they are now in third place in the league. The Bobcats host the Lely Trojans (1-2) next Friday night at the Preserve.
