Baltimore Orioles vs Toronto Blue Jays

Matt Weiters doubles home a run.Sarasota, Florida: The Baltimore Orioles wrapped up a record breaking spring on Tuesday afternoon at the newly renovated Ed Smith Stadium. This spring, over 115,000 people passed through the gates of the ballpark which saw 40 million dollar renovation during the off-season to make it one of the premier venues in the Grapefruit League.

A crowd of over 5,000 witnessed and offensive show for the spring finale between the Orioles and the Toronto Blue Jays. The clubs combined for 11 runs on 26 hits and in the end it was the Blue Jays winning the game 7-4.

The Blue Jays jumped out to a three run lead in the first inning. Yunel Escobar and Jose Bautista reached base on back to back singles. Then Aaron Hill double to left, scoring Escobar and Bautista. Hill would later score on an RBI single by Juan Rivera to put the Blue Jays ahead 3-0.

The Orioles chipped away at the lead staring in the home half of the first. Derrek Lee doubled to left with two outs to put a runner in scoring position. Vladimir Guerrero drove home the run with a line drive to left, scoring Lee and bringing them to within two runs of the lead 3-1.

The Orioles offense kept digging and took the lead in the second by pushing three runs across the plate. Adam Jones led off the inning with a single and then later scored on an RBI double by Matt Wieters. Brian Roberts then doubled home Wieters to tie the game. Roberts scored the go ahead run on an RBI single by Lee to give the Orioles a 4-3 lead.

The Blue Jays took back the lead in the seventh inning. Adam Lind tied the game with a lead of homer. Then Hill and Rivera delivered back to back singles to put a runner in scoring position. The fourth consecutive hit of the inning was an RBI single to score Hill and put the Jays back on top 5-4.

The Blue Jays used small ball to increase their lead in the top of the eighth inning. They pushed across two more runs on four single to give them the 7-4 margin of victory.

Dave Purcey picked up the win and Wes Etheridge the save for the Blue Jays. Josh Rupe suffered the loss for the Orioles.

The Blue Jays have one more spring game remaining as they head to St. Petersburg on Wednesday to face the Tampa Bay Rays in the final spring game for both clubs. Then its home to Toronto for opening day on Friday against the Twins.

The game wrapped up the Orioles spring training in Sarasota for 2011. They finished the spring with a 15-15 record. They also set stadium and franchise records for attendance this spring with 115,506 fans visiting Ed Smith Stadium. The Orioles will begin their 2011 regular season against the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field on Friday.
