G-Wiz
Sarasota, Florida: The Gulfcoast Wonder and Imagination Zone or G-Wiz for short, has been thrilling visitors of all ages with hands-on attractions on science and attraction. What started as just a few exhibits, quickly expanded to a world-class facility on the banks of Sarasota Bay.The Gulf Coast World of Science opened in October 1991 as a 1,000 square foot museum containing only ten hands-on exhibits. Since then the museum had grown to over 33,000 square feet and was renamed the Gulfcoast Wonder and Imagination Zone in reflection to the museums hands on exhibits geared towards science and imagination.
Today the two story museum features several zones that consist of different exhibits. The zones are:
- Body Zone: featuring exhibits that focus on the physical performance of the human body.
- Explora Zone: featuring exhibits that focus on electricity, magnetism, light and sound.
- Habitat: an exhibit that features a few Florida native species.
- Tech Zone: feature exhibits that allow the visitor to design items and then test their functions.
- Wave Zone: features exhibits that deal with light and sound waves.
In addition to the permanent exhibits, the museum also features space for traveling exhibits. During our visit, the museum was featuring an exhibit on King Tut which featured relics discovered in the tomb. A few of the traveling exhibits to appear at G-Wiz have included Titanic the Artifact Exhibition and Bodies Revealed.
The museum also features a gift shop, children’s programs and many educational programs.
