Islands of Adventure: Jurassic Park
Orlando, Florida: As you walk down the pathways lined with dense tropical foliage, you can here the distant sounds of dinosaurs. Overhead you can see a Pteranodon flying above you while you turn the corner to see another dinosaur in the bushes. You begin to wonder, did I go back in time or am I in the middle of Steven Spielberg’s next movie. Truth is, you are actually at the Jurassic Park island at Universal’s Islands of Adventure theme park.Jurassic Park is directly across the lagoon for the Port of Entry and the midway point as you pass through the islands of the park. On the pathway through the park, it is sandwiched between Toon Lagoon and the Lost Continent. It is the largest island of the park at around 21 acres.
Built to resemble the Jurassic Park found in the movie trilogy, the dense foliage of the island provides a great place of get out of the hot Florida sunshine. The island features many of the dinosaurs from the movie and even a replica of the Jurassic Park Visitor Center/
The ride highlight of the island is the Jurassic Park River Adventure. Here rides board a boat that takes them into the dinosaur habitats. Along the way, you pass by several peaceful dinosaurs. Then you boat gets knocked of course by a dinosaur and before you know it, you are in the Raptor containment area. As your boat heads deeper and deeper into danger, you come face to face with a T-Rex before taking the 85 foot plunge and splash down in the lagoon.
The other ride in Jurassic Park is geared towards the younger children. The Pteranodon Flyers is a suspended coaster that takes kids on a one and a half minute flight over Jurassic Park.
Children can also play at Camp Jurassic, a large playground structure located here in Jurassic Park. The play area features caves, suspension bridges and even a water canon fight to entertain children of all ages.
The Jurassic Park Discovery Center combines education with entertainment. Here you can get an inside look about the lives of dinosaurs. There are plenty of hands-on attraction that will entertain you while you learn about these prehistoric giants.
Jurassic Park features the following restaurants:
- The Burger Digs: burgers, chicken sandwiches and chicken tenders.
- Pizza Predattoria: pizzas, subs and salads.
- Thunder Falls Terrace: BBQ ribs, wraps, rotisserie chicken and turkey legs.
- The Watering Hole: hot dogs, wings, chili, nachos and more.
The following shops are located at Jurassic Park:
- Dinostore: anything dino from toys, books to replicas.
- Jurassic Outfitters: Jurassic Park apparel, toys and more.
