Hershey’s Chocolate World

Hershey's Chocolate WorldHershey, Pennsylvania: Much of the history of Hershey is contributed to one man, Milton Hershey, and his livelihood of chocolate. You do not have to go far to see the influence of the chocolate world on the city, from the smell of chocolate to the Hershey Kiss street lights, the image of the Hershey empire is all over the city. Hershey’s Chocolate World was created to tell visitors the story behind the chocolate bar and show the process of creating the world’s perfect treat.

As the popularity of the chocolate empire increased, the corporation was no longer able to accommodate the large number of people who wanted to take the factory tour and see the inside workings of the factory. So to answer the demand, they designed a ride-through attraction that showed the making of the chocolate bar. In 1973, Hershey’s Chocolate World opened to the public.

The highlight of the attraction is the Hershey’s Great American Chocolate Tour. Here guests embark on a ride vehicle that takes them on a 10 minute ride through the chocolate making process. Riders begin the tour in a rainforest where they follow the cocoa bean from the tree and across the ocean to the factory. From there they see how that cocoa bean makes the transformation into that Great American Chocolate Bar. Then follow the candy bar from the factory to the store shelf and end the ride with a sample of a Hershey’s product.

In addition to the chocolate ride, Chocolate World also features several other attractions:

  • Factory Works Experience- interactive kids exhibit in which they can experience life inside the factory by packaging Kisses.
  • Really Big 3-D Show- 250 seat theater showing an animated 3-D musical. (additional charge)
  • Hershey Trolley Works- a tour of downtown Hershey with singing conductors. The tour last about an hour and points out historical and cultural stops within the city. During the holidays, a special Christmas Adventure replaces the normal tour. (additional charge)
  • Hershey’s Chocolate Tasting Experience- learn what it takes to be a chocolate expert. (additional charge)

Chocolate World features a large shopping area that visitors can purchase all brands of Hershey’s candies as well as all the latest logo gear. The main candy store is one of the largest in the world. There is a food court that features great food, snacks and desserts.

Admission to Hershey’s Chocolate World is free. There are additional charges for some of the add-on rides and attractions but the main tour ride is still free.
