Zoo Tampa at Lowry Park: Asian Gardens

Tampa, Florida: When people think of wild animals, most people think of African safaris. However some of the most exotic animals in the wild can be found in Asia. But if you want to save money on travel and shots for your body, take a trip to Zoo Tampa at Lowry Park and walk through Asian Garden.

Asian Gardens is one of the oldest sections of Zoo Tampa. It is located left of Zoo Boulevard near the entrance to the park. Here you will find the entrance to the boardwalk and the exotic animals you can encounter here. Komodo Dragons, Malayan Tiger, Sloth Bears, Indian Rhinoceros, Clouded Leopard and Malayan Tapirs are just a few of the residents of Asian Gardens. If birds are your thing, Asian Gardens is home to one of the zoo’s free flight aviaries that looks like its straight from Indonesia and filled with mandarin ducks, muntjac deer and more.

Zoo Tampa is also starting to offer more and more interactive animal experiences which bring guests closer to the animals and one of them can be found here. The Rhino Encounter allows visitors to feed an Indian Rhino but be careful, a rhino can spray urine over 16 feet! This interaction is a separate fee from the zoo admission and needs to be purchased at guest services when you enter the zoo.

The animals of Asian Gardens are just a few of the several hundred species cared for at the zoo. You can visit them at Zoo Tampa located at 1101 West Sligh Avenue Tampa. The zoo is opened daily from 9:30 to 5. Single day admission to the zoo is $33.95 for adults and $24.95 for kids. They have other ticket options including Pay for a Day promotion and annual zoo membership. Zoo Tampa also participated in the City Pass program which allows access to Zoo Tampa and other popular Tampa attractions for one low price. Parking at the zoo is free.
