Port Orleans: French Quarter

Lake Buena Vista, Florida: As you enter through the wrought iron gates and pull up to the sounds of jazz fills the air as you approach the main building. No you are not in the heart of New Orleans, but rather the Port Orleans: French Quarter resort at Walt Disney World. It doesn’t take long to feel like your not in Florida anymore.

Opened in May 1991, Port Orleans was designed to reflect the architecture of the French Quarter of New Orleans. The three story buildings feature the ironwork that is known to the French Quarter, giving the look and feel of the Big Easy.

The resort featured just over 400 room when it first opened. Since then it has expanded to seven three story buildings featuring 1,008 rooms total. The resort is a moderate resort, meaning its room are slightly larger at 314 square feet each and feature side by side vanities and a sitting area.

Another perk to being a moderate hotel is the amenities. The swimming pool features a serpent water slide as well. There is even a marina, cane pole fishing and carriage rides that are shared with its sister property Port Orleans: Riverside.

Inside the main building of the resort is the Sassagoula Floatworks and Food Factory, the resorts only restaurant. The food court style eatery serves three meals a day under large props right out of Mardi Gras. Also located inside the main building is Scat Cat’s Lounge and Jackson’s Square store.

The resort also features the same amenities as all of the other Disney resorts. There is transportation to and from all the theme parks and attractions on the property. You can also participate in Extra Magic Hours in which one park opens early or stays open late for members of the resorts to enjoy the park without the everyday guests. Two very good reasons to choose a Disney resort for your stay.

The rates for Port Orleans French Quarter is consistent with the other moderate resorts. They can range from $149 in the value season to $250 during the holidays. But keep in mind rates are always subject to change without notice. Disney is also good at offering discounts like Florida Resident, Passholder and more. So be sure to check around for the best offer before booking a room.
